A Kommetjie father’s five-year journey to build a dream home with his own hands has captured hearts across Cape Town—and now, his daughter is rallying support to help him cross the finish line.
Brandon Amronski, a 62-year-old artist, photographer, and chef, began constructing his home in Kommetjie without a contractor, relying solely on grit, creativity, and two dedicated workers. The house, envisioned as a sanctuary for his family, represents more than shelter—it’s a symbol of resilience, healing, and hope.
After battling depression, PTSD, and the financial fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic, Amronski found solace in building. But with funds running low and the structure still incomplete, his 16-year-old daughter Luna launched a crowdfunding campaign on BackaBuddy to raise R69,000—just enough to finish the home and give her father a place to truly call his own.
“This house means everything to him,” Luna shared. “It’s a chance for him to feel proud again and maybe even find the motivation to re-enter the world.”
Currently living in a cramped one-bedroom cottage, Amronski dreams of a space where his family—including his eldest daughter in the Netherlands—can gather. With over R12,000 already raised, the campaign is gaining momentum, drawing support from locals and strangers alike.
